Stephen Karam’s Speech & Debate, which is the inaugural production of Roundabout Theatre Company’s “Roundabout Underground” series, will extend until February 24. The production, which was scheduled to end on December 30, is directed by Jason Moore.

The play, which began performances in October, concerns three misfits, linked by a scandal involving one of their teachers, who form their school’s first speech and debate squad. The cast features Susan Blackwell, Jason Fuchs, Gideon Glick, and Sarah Steele. The design team includes Boo Killebrew (choreographer), Anna Louizos (sets), Heather Dunbar (costumes), Justin Townsend (lighting), and Brett Jarvis (sound and projections).

Karam is best known as the co-author of columbinus. Moore directed Avenue Q, for which he received a Tony Award nomination, and the Broadway revival of Steel Magnolias.
