Allen, Buckley, et al. Set for TheatreWorks’ The Little Dog Laughed

Chad Allen, Candy Buckley, Jeremy Jordan, and Amanda Perez will star in the Hartford TheatreWorks’ production of Douglas Carter Beane’s The Little Dog Laughed, January 25-March 9. The production will be directed by Rob Ruggiero.

First presented by Second Stage Theater before moving to Broadway, the play concerns Mitchell, a rising Hollywood movie star (Allen), whose ruthless agent Diane (Buckley) is trying to land him the role of a lifetime. But plans begin to unravel when Mitchell falls for a male escort (Jordan) with a girlfriend (Perez). Beane’s other works include Xanadu< As Bees in Honey Drown, The Country Club, Mondo Drama, and the upcoming musical Dancing in the Dark, which will premiere this spring at San Diego’s Old Globe Theatre/

The show’s creative team includes Adrian W. Jones (sets), David R. Zyla (costumes), Thomas Dunn (lighting) and Zachary Williamson (sound). Ruggiero, the company’s artistic director, is currently represented Off-Broadway by Make Me a Song.

Allen has appeared on stage in Biloxi Blues, Corpus Christi, and Temporary Help. He is best known for his work on the television series Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman, Our House, and My Two Dads. Buckley has appeared on Broadway in After the Fall, Thoroughly Modern Millie and Cabaret. Jordan is a 2007graduate of Ithaca College, and Perez is a recent graduate of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.
