The Coast of Utopia Extends Through May 13

Lincoln Center Theater’s production of Tom Stoppard’s three-part epic The Coast of Utopia will now run through May 13. It was originally scheduled to close on March 11.

Directed by Jack O’Brien, the show stars Billy Crudup, Richard Easton, Jennifer Ehle, Josh Hamilton, David Harbour, Jason Butler Harner, Ethan Hawke, Amy Irving, Brían F. O’Byrne, and Martha Plimpton heading a cast of over 40 actors. The show’s creative team includes Bob Crowley and Scott Pask (sets), Catherine Zuber (costumes), and Brian MacDevitt, Natasha Katz, and Kenneth Posner (lighting).

The Coast of Utopia encompasses three separate plays, Voyage, Shipwreck, and Salvage, which span over 30 years in mid-19th century Russia during the repressive reign of Tsar Nicholas I. It tells the story of a group of intellectuals — headed by the radical theorist and editor Alexander Herzen, the novelist Ivan Turgenev, the literary critic Vissarion Belinsky, and the aristocrat-turned-anarchist Michael Bakunin — who strive to effect change in the political system by using their minds as their only weapon.

The three parts of the play will be presented on separate evenings. However, audience members will be able to see all three parts in one-day marathons on Saturdays, March 24, March 31, April 7, April 21, April 28, and May 5, beginning at 11am.
