Lois Robbins and Brian Sutherland to Star in New Maltby-Shire Revue

The Rubicon Theatre in Ventura, California will present A Time for Love, a new revue based on the songs of Richard Maltby and David Shire, February 1-25. The production is conceived and directed by Maltby, who won a Tony Award for directing Ain’t Misbehavin’.

The two character-revue stars Lois Robbins and Brian Sutherland as a couple who marry, grow apart, and then rediscover each other under new circumstances. Robbins was last seen onstage in The ’60s Project at the Goodspeed Opera House, which was also directed by Maltby. Sutherland’s Broadway credits include Cats, Victor/Victoria, and 1776.

Maltby and Shire wrote the scores for two Broadway shows, Baby and Big, and earned Tony nominations for both of them. Their songs have also been presented in two other musical revues, Starting Here, Starting Now and Closer Than Ever.
Maltby’s other directorial credits include the Broadway productions of Song & Dance, Fosse, and Ring of Fire.

The Rubicon’s 2007 season continues with Robert Schenkann’s By the Waters of Babylon (March 8-April 1), Hamlet (April 26-May 20), Children of a Lesser God (June 7-July 1), Bad Apples (August 16-September 9), and A Delicate Balance (September 20-October 14).
