Greg Germann, Alicia Silverstone, and Jon Tenney will star in the Geffen Playhouse’s production of David Mamet’s Speed-the-Plow, January 30-March 25. The production, to be directed by Randall Arney, will open officially on February 7.

First produced on Broadway in 1988, Mamet’s play concerns a studio executive, Bobby Gould who must choose between making a formulaic drama with a big star or an obscure mystical drama about the end of the world. The original production, directed by Gregory Mosher, starred Ron Silver, Joe Mantegna, and Madonna.

The creative team includes Robert Blackman (sets and costumes) and Daniel Ionazzi (lighting). Arney’s many directing credits include the Geffen productions of All My Sons, Take Me Out, and The Weir, and the Steppenwolf Theatre’s productions of Death and the Maiden, A Walk in the Woods, and Picasso at the Lapin Agile.

Germann’s many stage credits include the original Off-Broadway production of Assassins. He is best known for his work on the hit TV series Ally McBeal. Silverstone’s stage credits include the Broadway production of The Graduate and the Geffen’s production of Mamet’s Boston Marriage. Her many film and television credits include Clueless, Batman and Robin, and Miss Match. Tenney starred on Broadway in The Heiress and his other stage credits include Tartuffe, The Substance of Fire, and The Real Thing. He currently co-stars on the TNT television series The Closer with Kyra Sedgwick.
