Baldwin, Bening, Collette, Dench, Huffman, Mirren, Streep, et al. Receive Golden Globe Award Nominations

Nominations for the 64th Annual Golden Globe Awards were announced this morning in Los Angeles. The awards, which are decided upon by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, will be bestowed at 8pm on Monday, January 15 at the Beverly Hilton; the ceremony will be televised live on NBC.

As expected, Dreamgirls received a nomination for Best Picture (Musical or Comedy), along with nods for stars Beyoncé Knowles, Eddie Murphy, and Jennifer Hudson, and a Best Song nomination for Listen.

Helen Mirren received three nominations, for her work on the film The Queen and the TV miniseries Prime Suspect and Elizabeth I. Former Broadway star Toni Collette received two nominations: one for the film Little Miss Sunshine and one for the television movie Tsunami: The Aftermath. Another Main Stem veteran, Annette Bening, also received two nominations: one for the film Running With Scissors and one for the television movie Mrs. Harris. Her husband, Warren Beatty, will receive the group’s Cecil B. DeMille Award.

Among the other theater-related performers who received nominations for their film work include Cate Blanchett (Notes on a Scandal), Dame Judi Dench (Notes on a Scandal), and Meryl Streep (The Devil Wears Prada).

On the TV front, the nominees include stage veterans Alec Baldwin (30 Rock), Zach Braff (Scrubs), Tony Shalhoub (Monk), Michael C. Hall (Dexter), Edie Falco (The Sopranos), Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer), Felicity Huffman (Desperate Housewives), Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds), Sarah Paulson (Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip), Bill Nighy (Gideon’s Daughter), Jeremy Irons (Elizabeth I), Justin Kirk (Weeds), and Jeremy Piven (Entourage).
