Wendy Wasserstein Reported To Be Gravely Ill

Playwright Wendy Wasserstein is in a New York hospital and is said to be gravely ill, according to a story in today’s edition of Newsday.

The 55-year-old Wasserstein is the author of such plays as Uncommon Women and Others, Isn’t It Romantic?, The Heidi Chronicles (for which she won the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award), and An American Daughter. Her highly regarded comedy The Sisters Rosensweig is currently being revived at Boston’s Huntington Theatre Company, and her newest play, Third, is on view at Lincoln Center’s Mitzi Newhouse Theater.

No other details of Wasserstein’s illness are available. She has a six-year-old daughter, Lucy Jane.
