Deirdre O’Connell, David Rasche, and Harry Zittel will star in the Play Company’s production of Lesley Ayvazian’s Lovely Day, which will run January 12-February 12 at the Beckett Theater. The show will be directed by Blair Brown, who is best known as an actress.

The play centers on a married couple, Fran and Martin, who find themselves on opposite sides when they learn that a military recruiter has visited their son’s high school. Ayvazian’s other plays include High Dive and Nine Armenians. A noted actress as well, Ayvazian recently co-starred in A Naked Girl on the Appian Way.

The production’s design team includes David Korins (sets), Michael Krass (costumes), Paul Whittaker (lighting), and Darron L. West (sound). Brown previously directed Ayvazian’s Rosemary and I at the Passage Theater in New Jersey. She won a Tony Award for her performance in Copenhagen and has also starred on Broadway in The Dead, Cabaret, and Arcadia.

O’Connell was most recently seen in the Playwrights Horizons production of Manic Flight Reaction and received a 2005 Obie Award for Sustained Excellence. Rasche’s many stage credits include Speed-the-Plow, Moonlight and Magnolias, and Edmond. Zittel appeared in the Second Stage production of Privilege and spent two years as Adam Munson on the CBS soap opera As The World Turns.
