Michele Pawk is taking an eight-week leave from the starring role of Donna Sheridan in Mamma Mia! to recover from bruised vocal cords. She is expected to return to the show on February 8.

During her absence, the role of Donna Sheridan will be played by Lauren Mufson, who has been starring in the show’s national tour. Pawk joined the hit show in October along with her husband, John Dossett, who plays the role of Sam. (He will continue in the part.) She had also been scheduled to appear in the show Louder… Faster… Funnier with Leah Hocking and Ann Harada at Birdland on January 9; Pawk will be replaced in that show by Liz McCartney, who previously co-starred in Mamma Mia! as Rosie.

Pawk received a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for Hollywood Arms. Her other Broadway credits include Cabaret, Seussical, Chicago, and Crazy for You.
