Love Him Tender: Andy Karl to Star in Hunka Hunka Burnin’ Love

Andy Karl will star in Hunka Hunka Burnin’ Love, a celebration of the songs of Elvis Presley that will run January 16-February 5 at Au Bar (41 East 58th Street). The revue, to be directed by Kurt Stamm, will open officially on January 18.

Karl recently starred in both Altar Boyz and Slut. He will appear in the Presley show with Emily Drennan, a member of the award-winning a cappella group Toxic Audio, and stage newcomer Tom LoSchiavo.

Hunka Hunka Burnin’ Love is a journey through Presley’s three-decade-long career, including such hits as “Hound Dog,” “Jailhouse Rock,” “Love Me Tender,” and “Kentucky Rain.” The show was created by author Will Friedwald, author Jay Leonhart, and producer Jack Lewin; it will feature musical arrangements by John Oddo and the show’s musical director,Tedd Firth.

Stamm’s credits include Our Sinatra, Below the Valley of the Dolls, and the national tour of Leader of the Pack. He choreographed the Off-Broadway show They Wrote That? The Songs of Barry Mann and Cynthia Weill, and was assistant director of the Broadway musical Fosse.
