Hair, Piazza, Scoundrels, Spamalot, and Spelling Bee Get Grammy Noms

The original Broadway cast albums of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Light in the Piazza, Monty Python’s Spamalot, and The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, along with The Actors’ Fund of America benefit concert recording of Hair, have been nominated for this year’s Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album. The awards will be presented on February 8 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and televised live on CBS-TV.

In other nominations of note, Oscar winner Kevin Spacey received a nod for the soundtrack of the Bobby Darin biopic Beyond the Sea, while Tony Award winners Jim Dale and Roy Dotrice are both competing in the category of Best Spoken Word Album for Children — Dale for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Dotrice for Pooh’s Heffalump.

Tony Bennett, Michael Bublé, Johnny Mathis, Carly Simon, and Rod Stewart were all nominated for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, while Dee Dee Bridgewater, Nnenna Freelon, Dianne Reeves, Luciana Souza, and Tierney Sutton picked up nominations for Best Jazz Vocal Album.
