Edie Falco Withdraws from Roundabout’s Threepenny Opera

Edie Falco, the stage and screen actress best known for her role on TV’s The Sopranos, will not appear in the Roundabout Theatre Company’s spring production of The Threepenny Opera as originally announced, due to scheduling conflicts.

Alan Cumming, Jim Dale, and Nellie McKay are still set to star in this new production of the epoch-making Bertolt Brecht-Kurt Weill musical, which will be directed by Scott Elliott and is scheduled to run March 24-June 11at Studio 54. The design team for the show includes Derek McLane (sets), Isaac Mizrahi (costumes), and Jason Lyons (lighting)

The Threepenny Opera, an adaptation of John Gay’s The Beggar Opera, is a dark satire of respectable society that brings audiences into the underworld of the dapper criminal Mack The Knife (Cumming) and his wry love affair with Polly Peachum (McKay). The musical first played on Broadway in 1933 after premiering in Germany. It later had a lengthy Off-Broadway run from 1955 to 1961and was revived twice on Broadway, in 1976 and 1989.
