The Poets’ Theater of the 92nd Street, located at 1395 Lexington Avenue between 91st and 92nd streets, will present Philip Bosco, Rosemary Harris, Paul Hecht, and Paxton Whitehead in a staged reading of Don Juan in Hell — the third act of George Bernard Shaw’s Man and Superman — on Monday, January 24, at 8pm.

Bosco suggested the idea to Unterberg Poetry Center director David Yezzi last year. The actor notes that because the text of Don Juan in Hell is so rich, it is often performed as a concert reading with a bare stage and four players in formal evening clothes, a tradition that the 92nd Street Y production will follow. (The tradition began in 1951 when Charles Laughton directed and starred in a legendary production with Cedric Hardwicke, Agnes Moorehead, and Charles Boyer.) Bosco will play “The Devil,” Rosemary Harris will play Ana, Hecht will play Don Juan, and Whitehead will play The Commander. Yezzi will direct.

All tickets for the performance are priced at $16; they can be purchased by phoning 212-415-5500 or through the website www.92Y.org.
