Theater People and Productions Among GLAAD Media Award Nominees

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has announced the nominees for its 15th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. The awards recognize and honor media outlets for fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community and issues affecting the lives of those in the community.

Theater-related award categories and nominees in other categories that will be of interest to theater community are listed below in bold. In addition to these awards, stage actress Cherry Jones will receive the Vito Russo Award, annually presented “to an openly lesbian or gay member of the entertainment or media community for outstanding contributions toward eliminating homophobia”; Megan Mullally will receive the Golden Gate Award, presented “to a member of the entertainment or media community who has made a significant difference in promoting equal rights for the LGBT community”; and John Waters (whose 1988 film inspired the current Broadway hit Hairspray) will receive the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, “given in Los Angeles to an openly gay member of the entertainment or media community for his or her work toward eliminating homophobia.”
