The New York City television station NY-1 has chosen actor-singer Michael McElroy as its “New Yorker of the Week” in recognition of his work with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and his support for The Actors’ Fund of America. An interview with McElroy, including footage of him in rehearsal, will begin airing on NY-1-TV tonight at 8:50pm and will continue to be telecast at regular intervals through Monday.

In addition, McElroy and his Inspirational Voices Gospel Choir — which is made up of Broadway singers — are scheduled for an appearance on NBC’s The Today Show on Monday, December 15, during which they will perform songs from their new CD Great Joy: A Gospel Christmas. That night, they will participate in an all-star benefit concert for The Actors’ Fund at the New Amsterdam Theatre, titled Great Joy! A Holiday Celebration from Broadway. McElroy and the choir raised more than $70,000 for BC/EFA at a concert in October.

McElroy most recently appeared on Broadway as Jim in this season’s revival of Big River. His other credits include The Wild Party, Rent, The Who’s Tommy, and Miss Saigon on Broadway, as well as Richard III, Violet, and Thunder Knocking on the Door Off-Broadway.

Tickets for Great Joy! A Holiday Celebration from Broadway range from $50 to $1,000 and may be purchased by calling 212-221-7300, ext. 133 or 1-800-386-3849, ext. 133.
