No Butz About It: Diggs to Appear in Wicked

It has been announced that Taye Diggs will temporarily replace Norbert Leo Butz in the role of Fiyero in Wicked while Butz is on a medical leave of absence. Diggs will begin performances on December 25 and continue through January 18.
Butz, who is suffering from a back ailment, is expected to return to the show on January 20. The role of Fiyero, the lover of Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West, played by Idina Menzel), is currently being played by Butz’s understudy, Kristoffer Cusick.
Diggs, who is married to Menzel, is perhaps best known for his work in the original company of Rent, in the film How Stella Got Her Groove Back, and in the TV series Ally McBeal. He has also appeared on Broadway in the Lincoln Center Theater production of Carousel and in both the Broadway revival and the film version of Chicago.
