The 33rd season of the Lyrics & Lyricists series will begin on Saturday, January 4, 2003 at the 92nd Street “Y” with a tribute entitled The Songs of Frank Loesser: A Most Remarkable Fella. Loesser wrote the music and lyrics to a number of successful and enduring musicals including Guys and Dolls, The Most Happy Fella, and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

Three members of Loesser’s family will act as co-hosts for the event. His older children, Susan and John Loesser, will appear with his widow, Jo Sullivan Loesser, who starred in the original Broadway production of The Most Happy Fella. In addition, Colin Romoff — Loesser’s musical director and assistant — will serve as music director, and theatrical producer Arthur Rubin (also an original cast member of The Most Happy Fella) will make an appearance.

The cast of the tribute includes Liz Callaway (Baby, Miss Saigon), Chuck Cooper (The Life, Chicago), Liz Larsen (the Broadway revival of The Most Happy Fella), Sal Viviano (The Full Monty, City of Angels), Nina Hennessy (Dreamgirls, Les Misérables), and newcomer Jody Madaras.
