Spaces at 520, With Office and Rehearsal Space for Not-For-Profit Arts Groups, Opens Officially on January 10

The Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York (A.R.T./New York) will celebrate the grand opening of Spaces at 520, a facility offering 32,000 square feet of office and rehearsal space for not-for-profit arts groups, with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, January 10 at 11am.

Spaces at 520 was inspired by the events of September 11, which made it more difficult than ever for arts groups to find the work space they needed at prices they could afford. With $3 million in public and private funding provided by figures such as Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Manhattan Borough President C. Virginia Fields, and organizations such as the City Council and JPMorgan Chase, Spaces at 520 opens on the heels of A.R.T./New York’s 2000 acquistion of a Beaux-Arts building at 138 South Oxford Street in Brooklyn to provide administrative offices for 20 arts organizations.

Located in the garment district of Manhattan at 520 Eighth Avenue, Spaces at 520 includes offices, rehearsal rooms, and a flexible meeting-rehearsal space in the Bruce Mitchell Room. The 24 organizations represented at the facility include the S.I.T.I Company, the Arts & Business Council, ArtsConnection, Keen Company, Pan Asian Repertory Theatre, Yaddo, and more.
