The cast members and playwrights of Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays and Tectonic Theater Project celebrated the production’s first Off-Broadway preview by presenting Standing on Ceremony: The National Event, on Monday, November 7. More than 40 theaters across America and beyond produced the play that evening, following a live-streamed introduction from the Minetta Lane Theatre by producer Joan Stein, and the presentation of a $5,000 check to Freedom to Marry president Evan Wolfson.

Following the conclusion of the performance, Patrick Healy, theater columnist for The New York Times, led a live-streamed Q&A with Wolfson and participating playwrights Moises Kaufman, Jose Rivera, Paul Rudnick, and Doug Wright.

Standing On Ceremony features Craig Bierko, Polly Draper, Harriet Harris, Beth Leavel, Richard Thomas and Marc Consuelos, who will start performances later this week.

Contributing playwrights also include Mo Gaffney, Jordan Harrison, Joe Keenan, Neil LaBute and Wendy MacLeod. The production is directed by Stuart Ross.
