Jon Robin Baitz will write the screenplay for a film version of his play Other Desert Cities, according to a report on Deadline.com. In addition, the playwright will serve as co-producer on the project.

The play, currently running on Broadway at the Booth Theatre, Brooke Wyeth, a once promising novelist, returns home after a six-year absence to celebrate Christmas in Palm Springs with her parents, former members of the Reagan inner-circle, her brother, and her aunt. When Brooke announces that she is about to publish a memoir focusing on an explosive chapter in the family’s history, the holiday reunion is thrown into turmoil and the Wyeths are both bound together and torn apart as they struggle to come to terms with their past.

The current Broadway company features Stockard Channing, Rachel Griffiths, Stacy Keach, Judith Light, and Thomas Sadoski.

Among Baitz’s other plays are A Fair Country, The Substance of Fire, The Paris Letter, and Ten Unknowns. In addition, he created the television series Brothers & Sisters, and his other TV credits include The West Wing and Alias.
