Jim Parsons, Jessica Hecht, Charles Kimbrough to Star in Broadway Revival of Harvey

Jessica Hecht, Charles Kimbrough, and Jim Parsons will star in a Broadway revival of Mary Chase’s Harvey, to be presented by Roundabout Theatre Company in association with Don Gregory at Studio 54. Scott Ellis will direct the production, which will begin previews on May 18, 2012, with an opening set for June 14.

The play, which won the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 1944, centers on the charming and kind Elwood P. Dowd, who has only one character flaw: an unwavering friendship with a 6-foot-tall, invisible white rabbit named Harvey.

Parsons, who will star as Elwood P. Dowd, is a two-time Emmy winner for his work on The Big Bang Theory. He made his Broadway debut last season in The Normal Heart, winning a Theatre World Award and also a Drama Desk Award as part of the production’s ensemble.

Hecht, who will play Dowd’s sister Veta Louise Simmons, received a Tony Award nomination for her performance in A View From the Bridge. Among her other Broadway credits are Brighton Beach Memoirs, Julius Caesar, After the Fall, and The Last Night at Ballyhoo.

Kimbrough, who will portray William R. Chumley, M.D., received a Tony nomination for Company, with other Broadway credits including The Merchant of Venice, Accent on Youth, Hay Fever, and Sunday in the Park with George. He is best known for his role as Jim Dial on the sitcom Murphy Brown, for which he received an Emmy nomination.
