Heather Smaha, a recent graduate of SUNY Purchase College, has won the Phoenix Theatre Ensemble’s Eve Adamson Excellence in Lighting Design Award.

Smaha will receive the prize, which carries a $1,000 cash award as well as an opportunity to design a production for the group, in a ceremony to be held in conjunction with a performance of the company’s production of Yasmina Reza’s Art, on Saturday, December 10 at 8pm at The Wild Project.

The prize is named for Adamson, a founder of New York’s Jean Cocteau Repertory, who in addition to guiding the theater’s productions, established herself as a lighting designer for her own shows. It recognizes a deserving graduate student who is majoring in lighting design at a metropolitan area college or university.
