Carmello received Tony nominations for her work in Parade and Lestat, with other Broadway credits including The Addams Family, Mamma Mia!, Urinetown, Kiss Me Kate, The Scarlet Pimpernel, 1776, City of Angels, and Falsettos. She recently starred in Saving Aimee at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre.
Jerry Zaks directs the musical, based on the hit film of the same name, which tells the story of disco diva Deloris Van Cartier, who is put in protective custody in a convent after witnessing her gangster boyfriend and his cronies commit a murder. The show features an original score by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater and a book by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner and Douglas Carter Beane.
Nominated for five 2011 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, the show also currently features Patina Miller as Deloris Van Cartier, Fred Applegate as Monsignor, Sarah Bolt as Sister Mary Patrick, John Treacy Egan as Joey, Demond Green as TJ, Chester Gregory as Eddie, Kingsley Leggs as Curtis, Marla Mindelle as Sister Mary Robert, Audrie Neenan as Sister Mary Lazarus, and Caesar Samayoa as Pablo.
