Kevin Anthony, Gina Breedlove, LaTanya Hall, and Trent Kendall will be the vocalists for composer and musician Craig Harris’ new interpretation of God’s Trombones, to be presented at Harlem Stage’s Gatehouse, December 16-19.

Inspired by James Weldon Johnson’s 1927 collection of poems that mimic the rhythm and cadence of gospel preachers, and by the powerful brass tradition carried out at the United House of Prayer For All People in Harlem, which has been bringing congregations to one accord of ecstasy and spirit for decades, Harris’ God’s Trombones focuses on universal spirituality.

Musicians will include Marcus Strickland, a Brass Choir (Craig Harris, conductor/trombone; Bob Stewart, tuba; Joe Daley, euphonium; Alfred Patterson (trombone; Curtis Fowlkes, trombone; Gary Valente, trombone); Adam Klipple, keyboards; and Damon DueWhite, drums.
