Arielle Jacobs to Replace Jordin Sparks in Broadway’s In the Heights

Arielle Jacobs will take over the role of Nina Rosario from departing star Jordin Sparks in the Broadway production of the musical, In the Heights, at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Sparks will play her final performance on November 14, with Jacobs beginning on November 15, and playing through the show’s closing date on January 9, 2011.

The show is directed by Thomas Kail, with choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler, and features music and lyrics by Lin Manuel Miranda, and a book by Quiara Alegría Hudes.

The musical focuses on the tight-knit community at the top of the island of Manhattan and the hopes and dreams of three generations as they struggle to forge an identity in a neighborhood on the brink of transition. As previously reported, Miranda will return to the cast in the role of Usnavi beginning Saturday, December 25.

Jacobs, who will be making her Broadway debut, previously played her role in the national tour of In The Heights. She has also played Gabriella in the national tour of High School Musical. TV/film credits include Commander in Chief, Dance War, Water Lilies, and Disney’s 365.
