Neil Sedaka’s songs will be used for a new biographical musical, Laughter in the Rain, which will begin a U.K. tour on Mach 1 at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley.

The show will also play in Woking, Wolverhampton, Bristol, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Sunderland, Hull, Blackpool, Manchester, Cardiff, Milton Keynes, Bradford, and Southampton. The exact tour schedule will be announced at a later date.

The new musical has a book by Philip Norman, and charts Sedaka’s life, from early success in songwriting, penning of his first hit, “Oh Carol”, for his then girlfriend, Carole King to his rise to status as a teenage idol to rival Elvis. In 1964 his career collapsed as America embraced the Beatles. For almost a decade, he struggled to support his wife Leba and their two children but found salvation in moving to Britain, where he signed to Elton John’s Rocket Records label, and returned to the top of the U.S. charts in 1974 with “Laughter in the Rain.” Among his other songs are “Breaking up Is Hard to Do,” “Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen,” “Hey Little Devil,” and “Amarillo.”
