Emmy Award winner Kelsey Grammer will play Georges in the Broadway revival of La Cage Aux Folles, which will begin previews on April 6 at the Longacre Theatre, with an official opening on April 18.

The production will be directed by Terry Johnson and choreographed by Lynne Page, who are repeating their duties from the show’s current London production, which originated at the Menier Chocolate Factory. The show will co-star Olivier Award winner Douglas Hodge as Albin/Zaza. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.

The musical has a book by Harvey Fierstein and music and lyrics by Jerry Herman. The original Broadway production, starring George Hearn and Gene Barry, opened in 1983 and ran for over four years — winning numerous Tony Awards including Best Musical. A 2004 Broadway revival ran for just over six months.

The creative team will include Tim Shortall (sets), Matthew Wright (costumes), Nick Richings (lighting), and Jason Carr (orchestrations).

Grammer’s many stage credits include Macbeth, Othello, Sweeney Todd, and My Fair Lady. He is best known for playing Dr. Frasier Crane on the sitcoms Cheers and Frasier; his other television work includes Back to You, Hank, and The Simpsons.
