Mark Morris to Stage Gotham Chamber Opera’s L’Isola Disabitata

Mark Morris will stage Gotham Chamber Opera’s production of Joseph Haydn’s L’Isola Disabitata, February 18-28 at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater at John Jay College.

The show is about a pair of sisters who were raised on a desert island, who face the arrival of a man 13 years later. It will be conducted by Neal Goren and feature Takesha Meshe Kizart, Valerie Obgonnaya, Vale Rideout, and Tom Corbeil. The creative team includes Allen Moyer (sets), Liz Kurtzman (costumes), and Michael Chybowski (lighting).

Morrris is one of the world’s leading choreographers, whose works include The Hard Nut, Il Penseroso ed il Moderato, and Dido and Aeneas. He has previously staged such operas as Platee and King Arthur, and he directed and choreographed the Broadway musical The Capeman.
