Heidi Blickenstaff to Play Ursula in Little Mermaid Beginning January 27

Heidi Blickenstaff will succeed Sherie Rene Scott in the role of Ursula in the Broadway production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, currently performing at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. She will begin performances January 27, and is scheduled to play the role through April 5.

The musical is based on the Academy Award-winning film and the classic fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. It is directed by Francesca Zambello and choreographed by Stephen Mear, and features songs by Alan Menken and his late partner Howard Ashman from the film, as well as new songs by Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater. The book for the musical is by Doug Wright. The design team is headed by George Tsypin (scenic design) Tatiana Noginova (costumes), Natasha Katz (lighting), John Shivers (sound), Angelina Avallone (make-up), and David Brian Brown (hair design).

Blickenstaff originated the role of Carlotta in the musical and was the standby for the role of Ursula. She is best known as one of the original cast members of [title of show], and additional credits include the Broadway production of The Full Monty and her Helen Hayes Award-winning role in Meet John Doe.
