An African-American production of Tennessee Williams' Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, to be directed by Debbie Allen, will begin performances at the Broadhurst Theater during the week of February 11, with an official opening scheduled for March 6. Casting will be announced soon.

Williams' play searingly portrays a dysfunctional Southern family, including Maggie "the Cat," her alcoholic husband, Brick, and the dominating family patriarch, Big Daddy.

This will be the show's fifth Broadway production, including the original 1955 production starring Ben Gazzara, Barbara Bel Geddes, and Burl Ives. There have also been numerous film and television versions, most notably with Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor.

Allen is well known as a choreographer for stage, film, and television, having won many awards for her work. As an actress, she is also a two-time Tony Award nominee for West Side Story and Sweet Charity.
