André De Shields to Star in CTH’s Black Nativity

André De Shields will star in the Classical Theatre of Harlem’s new production of Langston Hughes’ Black Nativity, to run at the Duke on 42nd Street, November 30-December 30. The production will be directed by Alfred Preisser.

Set in 1973 Times Square, this new adaptation provides a colorful environment for exuberant African-American music and dance, with classic and beloved gospel standards, infused with soul, R&B, and hip-hop.

The show will co-star Enrique Cruz, Tracy Jack, and members of The Shangilia Youth Choir of Kenya. It features music direction by Kelvyn Bell, choreography by Tracy Jack, scenic design by Troy Hourie, lighting design by Aaron Black, and costume design by Kimberly Glennon.

De Shields received Tony Award nominations for his work in Play On! and The Full Monty. His other Broadway credits include The Wiz, Ain’t Misbehavin’, Stardust, and Prymate.
