A Raisin in the Sun to Debut at Sundance Film Festival

The made-for television film adaptation of the 2004 Tony Award-winning revival of A Raisin in the Sun, starring Sean P. Combs, Audra McDonald, Phylicia Rashad, and Saana Lathan, will debut as an out-of-competition feature at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, January 17-27. It will be broadcast on ABC at 8pm on Monday, February 25. The film is be directed by Kenny Leon, who helmed the Broadway revival, with a screenplay by Paris Qualles based on the play by Lorraine Hansberry.

Hansberry’s play tells the story of three generations of an African-American family living and struggling together on Chicago’s South Side in the 1950s. The 2004 revival was nominated for four Tony Awards, with Rashad and McDonald winning for their performances.

A Raisin in the Sun will also feature John Stamos, Sean Patrick Thomas, Justin Martin, David Oyelowo, Bill Nunn, and Ron Cephas Jones.
