Upcoming Broadway Production of Billy Elliot To Hold Open Auditions

The upcoming Broadway musical Billy Elliot, scheduled to open in Fall 2008 at a theater to be announced, will be holding open auditions this month in New York and Boston for boys ages 10-13 to play both the title role and that of “Michael.”

Now playing London, Billy Elliot the Musical tells the tale of a young boy with a dream of being a dancer. The Broadway production will reunite the original London creative team of Stephen Daldry (director), Elton John (music), and Lee Hall (book and lyrics) and will feature choreography by Peter Darling, scenic design by Ian MacNeil, costume design by Nicky Gillibrand, lighting design by Rick Fisher, and sound design by Paul Arditti. The show is based on the 2000 film of the same name.

The New York City audition will take place on Saturday, November 11 at Hilton Theatre Studios (214 West 43rd Street). Sign up begins at 10am, with auditions to begin at 11am, Boys should be prepared to stay all day, if needed. Callbacks will be held on November 12.

The Boston audition will take place on Saturday, November 18 att Boston Ballet Studios (19 Clarendon Street). Sign up beings at 11:30am, and auditions begins at 12:30pm. Boys should be prepared to stay all day, if needed. Callbacks will be held on November 19.

All boys must be able to dance, sing and act. The maximum height is 5′. Alll boys must bring a recent photo, sneakers (and tap and ballet shoes if possible), plenty to drink, lots of energy, and comfortable clothes (no leotards or tights); There is no need to prepare audition pieces. All necessary material will be taught.
