Stockard Channing and Allison Janney to Salute Wendy Wasserstein

Stockard Channing and Allison Janney will participate in An Uncommon Woman: A Celebration of Wendy Wasserstein and Music, a tribute to the late playwright by Glimmerglass Opera, which will be held at 6pm on Tuesday, November 28 at the Colony Club (564 Park Avenue).

The evening will feature readings from Wasserstein’s work, a screening of excerpts from the opera The Festival of Regrets, for which she wrote the libretto, and performances of songs from the upcoming Pamela’s First Musical by Monica Yunis, Matthew Worth, and pianist Djordje Nesic. In addition, the Chamber Singers of Mount Holyoke College, Wasserstein’s alma mater, will also perform.

Channing and Janney co-starred on the hit TV series The West Wing, for which each won Emmy Awards. Channing won the Tony Award for Joe Egg and received Tony nominations for Six Degrees of Separation, The House of Blue Leaves, Four Baboons Adoring the Sun, and The Lion in Winter. Janney has appeared twice on Broadway, in A View from the Bridge, for which she received a Tony nomination and the Drama Desk Award for Best Actress in a Play, and Present Laughter, for which she won the Theatre World Award.
