Michael Cerveris and Donna Murphy to Headline LoveMusik; Broadway Opening Set for May 3 at Biltmore

Tony Award winners Michael Cerveris and Donna Murphy will play composer Kurt Weill and his wife, singer Lotte Lenya, in the new Broadway musical LoveMusik, which will begin performances at Manhattan Theatre Club’s Biltmore Theatre on April 12 and will open officially on May 3. The production will be directed by Harold Prince.

The show will feature the music of Weill and a book by Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winner Alfred Uhry. LoveMusik is suggested by Speak Low (When You Speak Love), The Letters of Kurt Weill and Lotte Lenya, edited and translated by Lys Symonette and Kim H. Kowalke. The cast will also include David Pittu as Bertolt Brecht and John Scherer as George Davis. Additional information on casting and the creative team will be announced at a later date.

Uhry won Tonys for The Last Night of Ballyhoo and the book of the musical Parade; he won the Pulitzer for Driving Miss Daisy and an Academy Award for the film’s screenplay. Prince has won 21 Tonys in his career as director and producer. His many Broadway credits include The Phantom of the Opera, Evita, Sweeney Todd, Company, and Cabaret.

Cerveris won a Tony for Assassins and received nominations for playing the title roles in Sweeney Todd and The Who’s Tommy. Among his many other stage credits are Titanic, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and The Apple Tree.

Murphy won Tonys for her performances in Passion and The King and I. She received a Tony nomination and a Drama Desk Award for Wonderful Town. Her other New York stage credits include The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Hello Again and Song of Singapore. She is rumored to be playing the role of Phyllis Stone in the upcoming City Center Encores! production of Follies, and she will appear in an upcoming episode of Law & Order.
