Marc Kudisch to Star in New York City Opera’s The Pirates of Penzance

Two-time Tony Award nominee Marc Kudisch will play the role of the Pirate King in the New York City Opera’s new production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance, which will play March 3-31 and will open officially on March 7 at the New York State Theater at Lincoln Center.

A co-production with Glimmerglass Opera, The Pirates of Penzance will be directed by Lillian Groag and conducted by Gerald Steichen, with choreography by Lynne Hockney. The design team is headed by John Conklin (sets), Jess Goldstein (costumes), and Pat Collins (lighting).

The operetta will also star Sarah Jane McMahon as Mabel, Myrna Paris as Ruth, Matt Morgan as Frederic, and Kevin Burdette as the Sergeant of Police. They and Kudisch will sing all 16 performances; the balance of the cast will be announced soon.

Kudisch received Tony Award nominations for his performances in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Thoroughly Modern Millie. His other Broadway credits include Assassins, Bells Are Ringing, The Wild Party, The Scarlet Pimpernel, and Beauty and the Beast; he is currently in rehearsal for the Roundabout Theatre Company’s Broadway revival of The Apple Tree.
