Glynn Turman Heads Cast of Wilma’s My Chilldren! My Africa!

Glynn Turman will star in the Wilma Theater’s production of Athol Fugard’s My Children! My Africa!. Directed by Blanka Zizka, the show will run December 6-January 7 and is set to open officially on December 13.

The play, which will co-star Megan Heimbecker and Yaegel Welch, focuses on a dedicated black teacher in a segregated South African township who is determined to pair his most gifted student with an enthusiastic white schoolgirl in an English literature competition.

The creative team of the Wilma production includes Matt Saunders (sets), Millie Hiibel (costumes), John Stephen Hoey (lighting), and Bill Moriarty (sound). Zizka is the theater’s co-artisitc director and has directed the Manhattan Theatre Club productions of Yellowman and The Other Side.

Turman created the role of Travis Younger in the original Broadway production of A Raisin in the Sun. He currently stars on the HBO series The Wire and the CW series All of Us, and he was a regular on NBC’s Different Strokes. He has received the NAACP’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Theatre, as well as that organization’s coveted Image Award.
