Christopher Fitzgerald and Jeremy Shamos to Star Off-Broadway in Gutenberg! The Musical!
Christopher Fitzgerald and Jeremy Shamos will star in an Off-Broadway production of Gutenberg! The Musical! at 59 E 59 Theaters, which will run November 21-December 31, with an official opening slated for December 3. The show, which was a big hit at the recent New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) was co-written by Anthony King and Scott Brown and will be directed by Alex Timbers.
The musical spoof concerns a pair of aspiring playwrights who perform a backers’ audition for their new project, a musical about the inventor of the printing press, Johann Gutenberg. In addition to its run at NYMF — which earned Excellence Awards for King, Brown, Fitzgerald, and Shamos — the show was previously seen at the Jermyn Street Theatre in London with the authors in the leads.
Fitzgerald is a two-time Drama Desk Award nominee, whose New York stage credits include Wicked, Amour, Saturday Night, and Fully Committed. Shamos has starred on Broadway in The Rivals and Reckless; his Off-Broadway credits include Engaged, Miss Witherspoon, and The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged. The pair previously starred together Off-Broadway in Observe the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme.
