Broadway was agog this weekend as not one, but two new hits opened: A thrilling reconception of Sweeney Todd and the brand new Four Seasons biomusical Jersey Boys. Pictured here during the Jersey Boys after-party at the Marriott Marquis are the singing actors who star as The Four Seasons: Daniel Reichard (Bob Gaudio), Christian Hoff (Tommy DeVito), John Lloyd Young (Frankie Valli), and J. Robert Spencer (Nick Massi).
On hand for the party were the three surviving members of The Four Seasons, in the flesh: (left to right) DeVito, Gaudio, and Valli.
Here, the legendary Frankie Valli (right) poses with John Lloyd Young, the new Broadway star who plays him in Jersey Boys.
Does it end in a vowel? Among the notables cheering Jersey Boys were Joe Pesci (who is also a character in the show) and Robert DeNiro (who is not)…
…Edie Falco, last seen on Broadway in ‘night, Mother…
…’60s pop sensation Frankie Avalon…
…and actor Danny Aiello.
A show of a very different sort, director John Doyle’s gripping new production of the Stephen Sondheim-Hugh Wheeler musical Sweeney Todd, opened at the Eugene O’Neill on Thursday, November 3 to mostly rave reviews. Here are the stars, Patti LuPone (Mrs. Lovett) and Michael Cerveris (Sweeney), at the after-party at the Copacabana.
Also partying: Manoel Felciano, who plays Tobias in the show…
…Donna Lynne Champlin, who plays Pirelli…
…Alexander Gemignani, who plays the Beadle…
…Mark Jacoby, who plays the Judge…
…and the creator himself, Stephen Sondheim.
Celebs who attended the tale of Sweeney Todd included two great theater stars: the irreplaceable Elaine Stritch…
…and the beautiful, golden-voiced Audra McDonald.
