TADA! Accepting Submissions for One-Act Play Contest

TADA! Youth Theater is currently accepting submissions for its annual one-act playwriting contest. Three winning playwrights will each receive a cash award and a staged reading as part of TADA!’s 14th annual staged reading series, to be held on the first three Mondays in May 2005 at 5:30pm. The winners also have the option to have their plays included in TADA! Originals, a script rental catalogue. Writers of all ages may submit; those aged 19 and under will be considered in the “Young Writers” category. This year’s three winners will be announced during the week of March 8; they will be selected by a unique teen panel and a professional panel that includes Susan Bernfield (artistic director of the New Georges company), Winnie Holzman (who wrote the book of the musical Wicked), and Michael Slade (writer of nine musicals for Theatreworks/USA).

“The contributions of everyone at TADA!, were invaluable for me as a writer,” said Alex S. DeFazio, 2004 winner for his play Mountainlight. “It not only helped me revise the piece but gave me the extra insight I needed into the minds of these young characters by giving me the opportunity to see them rehearsed, discuss, and read by teenagers.”

The postmark deadline for play submissions is Tuesday, January 4, 2005. To obtain submission guidelines, phone Emmanuel Wilson, TADA’s literary manager and artistic associate, at 212-252-1619, ext. 17, or send an email to playcontest@tadatheater.com.
