Dame Edna and Brooke Shields to Light 2004 Broadway Holiday Tree

Dame Edna Everage and Brooke Shields will be joined by cast and company members from a host of Broadway and Off-Broadway shows when they flip the switch to light the 2004 Broadway Holiday Tree. The ceremony will take place on Wednesday, December 8 at 5:15pm in Father Duffy Square (Broadway and 46th Street, just down from the TKTS booth).

The event is free and open to the public. It will begin with a performance by Maureen McGovern, one of the stars of the upcoming musical Little Women, and will end with a number performed by cast members of the Tony Award winning “Best Musical” Avenue Q with students from the Professional Performing Arts School. During the ceremony, the Theatre Development Fund and the League of American Theatres and Producers will continue their tradition of presenting a $5,000 gift to a not-for-profit organization located in the theater district. The recipient of the gift will be announced shortly.

The annual Broadway Holiday Tree ceremony celebrates the joy of the season and honors members of the theater community who have died in the past year. A 25-foot Douglas Fir will be decorated with lights and ornaments representing every show that’s currently playing on and Off-Broadway.
