Glen Roven’s new Singular Sensations! series of legendary stars in performance and conversation at the Village Theater got off to a great start this week with the amazing Carol Channing (pictured) in spectacular form.
In addition to performing her signature songs — “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend,” “A Little Girl From Little Rock,” and “Hello, Dolly!” — Channing shared many hilarious anecdotes with Roven and with the adoring audience.
The show marked the stage debut of Harry Kullijian, whom Channing met in high school and then lost contact with for more than 60 years. Soon after their reconnection, they were married. Channing continues in Singular Sensations! through this coming weekend; next up is Donna McKechnie, and subsequent programs will showcase such stars as Lainie Kazan, Elaine Paige, Shirley Jones — and Mickey Rooney!
Last night’s opening of The Violet Hour at the beautifully renovated Biltmore Theatre was celebrated with an after-party at The Supper Club. Here’s star Robert Sean Leonard…
…and here are two of his co-stars, Scott Foley and Mario Cantone.
The latest Broadway revival of Tennessee Williams’s Cat on a Hot Tin Roof opened on Sunday, November 2 at the Music Box. Here are Ashley Judd and Jason Patric, the production’s Maggie and Brick, partying at Tavern on the Green…
…and here’s Big Daddy himself, the critically lauded Ned Beatty.
Also on November 2, the great stage, film, and television star Angela Lansbury signed autographs for her fans on her way into the Hammerstein Ballroom at the Manhattan Center for the “CBS at 75” anniversary event.
As a follow-up to Career Transition for Dancers’ recent Gotta Dance gala at City Center, the organization held a “between show get-together” at Sardi’s on Wednesday, November 5. Pictured here are Scott Wise and Deidre Goodwin; both are featured in the “Cell Block Tango” number in the Oscar-winning film version of Chicago, and Goodwin recently did a stint as Velma Kelly in the Broadway revival of the show (opposite the multi-talented Melanie Griffith as Roxie Hart).
Also at Sardi’s for the CTFD event were these young, young, young members of the cast of Fame, soon to open Off-Broadway at the Little Shubert Theatre.
We cap this photo feature with a few shots from the Workshop Theater Company benefit held at the Lucille Lortel Theater on Monday, November 3. Among the many stars who performed: Rita Gardner, who created the role of Luisa in The Fantasticks way back in 1960…
…Anita Gillette, performing “No Boom Boom” from Zorba…
…Semina DeLaurentis, from the original cast of Nunsense…
…Avenue Q‘s John Tartaglia with his close friend Rod…
…and Steven Brinberg as you-know-who in a number from his long-running show Simply Barbra.
