Vincent Van Gogh, who overcame rejection and mental illness to become one of the world’s most revered artists, is the subject of the new musical Vincent, with a book and score by Robert Mitchell. The show will open on January 3 at the Wings Theatre, directed by Judith Fredericks; Paul Johnson will serve as musical director.

Mitchell has composed the scores for the Off-Broadway shows Rappaccini’s Daughter, Bags, One Man, Two Minds, and Lone Star, as well as having worked in film (Southern Heart) and television (for PBS). Fredericks, founder of the New York-based Writer’s Stage, has directed opera, Mitchell’s Rappaccini’s Daughter, and seven different tours of The Best of Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The Wings Theatre is located at 154 Christopher Street. Tickets for Vincent are $19 and can be reserved with a credit card by phoning 212-627-2961 or purchased at the box office on performance nights.
