A celebration of the life and career of the late Broadway lyricist-librettist Adolph Green, who died on October 24 at the age of 87, will take place at the
Shubert Theatre (225 West 44th Street) on Tuesday, December 3, at 12 noon.

Organized by Green’s widow, actress Phyllis Newman, and the couple’s children, Adam and Amanda Green, the event is being called "A Party for Adolph Green" in reference to a series of shows that Green performed on Broadway and elsewhere with his longtime collaborator, Betty Comden. The legendary team’s many writing credits include the Broadway shows On the Town (in which they also co-starred), Wonderful Town, Bells Are Ringing, Subways Are For Sleeping, On the Twentieth Century, and The Will Rogers Follies. They also wrote the screenplays for such films as Singin’ in the Rain and Auntie Mame.

Comden and other leading lights of the entertainment community will speak at the event, which will occur one day after what would have been Green’s 88th birthday. According to Newman, "We chose the Shubert because Adolph and I
courted there when I was understudying Judy Holliday in Bells Are Ringing. Like Adolph, it has a special place in my heart." A limited number of seats will be available to the public on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the event.
