Ewan McGregor Will Make His Broadway Debut in Roundabout's The Real Thing

Ewan McGregor, best known for his performances in the films such as Trainspotting, Moulin Rouge!, and Big Fish, will make his Broadway debut next year when he stars in Sam Gold's revival of Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing for Roundabout Theatre Company. The production will begin previews on October 20, 2014, with an opening night set for October 30 at the American Airlines Theatre.

The Real Thing, which won a Tony Award upon its Broadway premiere in 1984, follows Henry (to be played by McGregor), a playwright unhappily married to the leading actress in his play, which is about a collapsing marriage. When Henry begins an affair with their friend Annie, life begins to imitate art. When Annie leaves her own husband to start a new life with Henry, he must decide whether or not their love is real.

McGregor received an Olivier Award nomination for his performance in Donmar Warehouse's 2005 revival of Guys and Dolls. He has also appeared onstage in Othello and The Play What I Wrote. His film credits include the first three Star Wars episodes, Black Hawk Down, and the upcoming screen adaptation of August: Osage County, among many others.

Casting and additional information on The Real Thing will be announced in the coming months. An additional production for Roundabout's spring season will also be announced soon.
