Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation has announced that director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell will receive the 2013 "Mr. Abbott" Award in recognition of the artistry and creativity displayed during his 30-year career.

The award is named in honor of renowned director George Abbott and is presented to a director or choreographer in recognition of lifetime achievement. Mitchell will receive his award at a gala event in spring 2013.

Jerry Mitchell, who will be represented this season with the upcoming Harvey Fierstein and Cyndi Lauper musical Kinky Boots, received Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics' Circle Awards for choreographing the 2005 Tony Award-winning La Cage aux Folles and was nominated for the Tony as choreographer of Legally Blonde and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
