Jenny Bacon and Mark Nelson will join the previously reported star Ari Brand in Aaron Posner’s My Name Is Asher Lev, at the Westside Theatre beginning November 8, with an opening on November 28. Gordon Edelstein will direct.

Adapted from Chaim Potok’s best-selling novel, the play is set in post-war Brooklyn and tells the powerful story of a boy prodigy who must paint at any cost — against the will of family, community and tradition.

Bacon, who will play the title character’s mother Rivkeh, has been seen in such plays as Heartless and Omnium Gatherum. Nelson, who will portray Asher Lev’s father Aryeh, has appeared on Broadway nine times – including in After The Fall, The Invention of Love, and A Few Good Men – and won an Obie for Picasso at the Lapin Agile. Additionally, Potok’s own daughter, Naama Potok, has been cast as the understudy for the role of Rivkeh.

The creative team will include scenic designer Eugene Lee, lighting designer James F. Ingalls, and costume designer Ilona Somogyi, along with John Gromada, who will provide original music and sound design.
