West Side Story to Return to Movie Theaters on November 9

By Brian Scott Lipton • Oct 12, 2011 • New York City
NCM Fathom and Turner Classic Movies will re-release the Oscar-winning film adaptation of West Side Story in over 400 movie theaters on Wednesday, November 9.

A modern retelling of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, the film features music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The film was co-directed by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins. The cast features Natalie Wood as Maria, Richard Beymer as Tony, Rita Moreno as Anita, and George Chakiris as Bernardo.

The screening will be preceded by a special pre-taped conversation with Chakiris and Marni Nixon, who served as Wood's voice double; as well as Walter Mirisch of The Mirisch Company, which produced the film. TCM host Robert Osborne moderates the talk.
