Tony Award Nominee Diane Cilento Has Died

Actress Diane Cilento has died, according to published reports. She was 78.

Cilento earned a Tony Award nomination for her performance in The Tiger at the Gates. Her other Broadway credits include Heartbreak House and The Good Soup. In addition, the Australian born actress appeared in productions in London, including Orpheus Descending at the Royal Court. In her later life, she ran a popular outdoor theater in Australia.


She received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her work in Tom Jones and was also seen in such films as The Agony and the Ecstacy and Hombre.


Cilento’s marriage to Sean Connery ended in divorce in 1973. She also married to playwright/screenwriter Anthony Shaffer until his death in 2001.
