Tony Award winner Audra McDonald performed at Carnegie Hall on Saturday, October 22 as part of her 17-city concert tour across North America. She was joined by Tony Award-winner Ted Sperling, who conducted a Broadway-sized orchestra.

McDonald’s many musical theater selections included Irving Berlin’s “Moonshine Lullaby,” Stephen Sondheim’s “Moments in the Woods,” George and Ira Gershwin’s “He Loves and She Loves,” Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick’s “Dear Friend,” Alan Jay Lerner, and Burton Lane’s “Hurry, It’s Lovely Up Here.” She also performed Adam Guettel’s “Migratory V,” on which she accompanied herself on the piano.

Composers Adam Gwon and Gabriel Kahane, whose works she performed, were in attendance at the concert, as was Diane Paulus, director of the upcoming Broadway production of The Gershwin’s Porgy & Bess, among other notables.

McDonald will be co-starring with Norm Lewis in that production of Porgy & Bess, which begins previews at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on December 17. She won Tony Awards for her performances in Carousel, Master Class, Ragtime, and A Raisin in the Sun. In addition, she received Tony Award nominations for her work in Marie Christine and 110 in the Shade. She recently starred on ABC’s Private Practice.
